General Information
LOCATION
The Pelley House is situated at 13 Northside Road in Boyd’s Cove, NL. This village is located in Notre Dame Bay, on route 340. Boyd’s Cove is a one-hour drive from Gander International Airport or a four-hour drive from St. John’s International Airport.
HOUSE ACCESS
Several days prior to your arrival at the Pelley House, you will receive an e-mail message containing an access code. This four digit code will open a lockbox located beside the driveway entrance door. This lockbox contains the house keys to both the front and back door.
WIFI
The Pelley House is equipped with complimentary high-speed internet. The internet may not be used for illegal activity. There is a smart television in the Livingroom. The house does not have cable or satellite, however you can use the TV and stream entertainment through the internet on Netflex services. You must use your own account.
CELLULAR SERVICE
Many folks have experienced difficulty obtaining good cellular service while inside the Pelley House. Overall, Boyd’s Cove has very limited coverage. You may get some success using your phone upstairs and close to the bay windows. Also there appears to be some coverage across the road and on the embankment close to the water’s edge. You may want to consider turning on WI-FI calling, if you have this feature on your phone. Most new cell phone do have this feature and while in WI-FI range you can make and receive phone calls and texts.
CHECK-IN TIME
Check-in time is after 03:00 p.m. Early check-in may be possible. Call the owner to make your request.
CHECK-OUT TIME
Check-out time is 12:00 noon. Check-out process is quite simple, just place the keys on the dining room table and lock both the front & back doors. Before doing so please place household soiled laundry into the laundry basket. Also, please write a little something in the guest book. If the Pelley House is fully booked it is unlikely that we will be able to offer you the late check-out option.
KEYS
Please leave the household keys on the dining room table upon check-out. Should you lose the keys, please immediately notify the caretaker.
WATER
The drilled well water is not recommended for drinking. It has a lot of sulphur and may sometimes be a light grey color, especially in early spring. In the kitchen there is a top-load water cooler with several plastic reusable containers. The local grocery stores sell water and will fill the 20L containers. The well water is safe for bathing, washing dishes and laundry.
HEAT
The house has electric heat on the main floor and in the three upstairs bedrooms. The living room and dining room also have propane heaters.
AIR CONDITIONING
There are several portable window air conditioners located in the house. Depending on the time of year you are staying at the Pelley House, they may or may not be installed.
GARBAGE
To comply with the Central Newfoundland Waste Management requirements, all recyclables must be sorted and placed in transparent blue bags and household garbage in a clear bag. The necessary bags are located in the kitchen cupboard under the sink. Should you be staying for an extended period of time, please store the garbage and recyclables in the garden shed. BARBEQUE
There is a large propane barbeque located on the west deck. A second smaller charcoal barbeque is located in the garden shed. Please do not light or use the propane barbeque under the covered deck. It can be moved to the open deck when necessary for use.
GROCERIES & FUEL
There is no grocery store or gas bar in Boyd’s Cove. The closest grocery store (Farr’s Foodland) is located in Summerford, New World Island. There is also a conveniences store, gas bar and liquor outlet (Irving) in this area. For a greater selections, consider travelling to the larger centers such as Lewisporte, Gander or Twillingate.
DORMER LIGHTS
After dark, should you wish to light up the house exterior of the house, please turn on the wall switch located by the china cabinet. This switch controls the four exterior dormer lights.
LAUNDRY FACILITIES
The laundry room has a washer, dryer and a sink.
WASHROOM
The Pelley House has one washroom located on the main level. This large washroom is complete with sink, toilet and combination tub/shower. The Pelley House has a septic tank and field. Please be careful what you flush down the drains.
KITCHEN
The kitchen is fully equipped including a full size fridge, electric range, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, and the necessary pots, pans, dishes and cutlery to support your day-to-day cooking requirements.
HAIR DRYER
There is a hair dryer located in the washroom.
IRON AND IRONING BOARD
There is an iron and ironing board available in the laundry room.
HOUSE RULES
No smoking. Parties not allowed. No barbequing under the covered deck. You may not exceed the number of people specified at the time of booking. The internet may not be used for illegal activity. The house is not suitable for large parties or events. If guests are staying in the village to attend weddings, family reunions or other group events, these events must be held in locations outside of the heritage home premises or garden. Violation of our policies regarding smoking, parties or pets within the house may result in significant additional charges levied to cover the cost of deep cleaning. If there is damage or loss to furnishings and fixtures as a result of a guest’s actions, such guests may be charged for the full cost of repair or replacement of the damaged areas/items
NON-SMOKING
The Pelley House is 100% non-smoking. Thank you for your cooperation.
ATM SERVICE
The closest ATM machine is located at Gary's Irving Convenience, Summerford. ATM Services are also located in Twillingate, Lewisporte and Gander.
BANKS
There are Banks located in Gander (Scotiabank. BMO, TD, CIBC & RBC), Lewisporte (Scotiabank & CIBC) and Twillingate (Scotiabank). Banking hours are generally Monday to Friday 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
CHURCH SERVICES
There are two churches located in Boyd’s Cove. St George’s Anglican and St Anne’s Roman Catholic. For information and schedule for St George’s, please dial (709) 676-2005. For information and schedule for St Anne’s, dial (709) 653-2250.
DOCTOR
Should you require the services of a doctor you can consider visiting the New World Island Medical Clinic, New World Island. (709) 629-3681. There is also a hospital located in Twillingate, Gander and Grand Falls.
MEDICAL EMERGENCIES
For medical emergencies, please dial 911. You may also contact Mercer’s Ambulance Service, Boyd’s Cove, by dialing: (709) 656-4511.
EMERGENCY AND FIRE
Should you discover a fire please dial 911. You can also contact the Boyd’s Cove Fire Department by dialing (709) 656-4186. Please do not attempt to put the fire out yourself, move away from the building. Please gather across the roadway.
FIRST AID
Should you require aid, there is a First Aid kit located in the left bathroom vanity drawer.
LOST AND FOUND
The Pelley House has a lost & found policy. In line with local regulations, non-valuable lost and found items will be stored for a period of three months and after which, the items will be discarded. Valuable items are handed over to the local police authorities after a period of six months.
MAINTENANCE
If something is not in working order, please call the caretaker.
PET POLICY
For the convenience of other guests and in an effort to help us provide the cleanest and most sanitary accommodations possible, pets are not permitted.
